Makes you feel safe

So for those unfamiliar with my neighborhood, here's a "map":

ABC
DEF
GHI

is one end of a block. To the right of CFI is a major road (Massachusetts Avenue). I live at G, on a residential side street.

C is the KFC/Taco Bell where someone was shot in the parking lot this afternoon around 4 pm. We were in the driveway at the time, when we heard 6 gunshots. From less than 100 yards away.

Gah.

Nothing's on the news yet. The residents watching the scene from outside the senior citizen's center at F said that a white man age 22 was shot and taken away to the hospital; they thought he was still alive.

Gah.

Yikes! Thanks for posting to let us know you're OK. If I'd heard about it on the radio first, you're likely the very first person I'd have wanted to know about.

Awful stuff.

We drove past there on our way to Harvard Square, probably around 4:30. Because of the number of cruisers and emergency response workers, I figured someone dropped dead of a heart attack in the parking lot -- the police were interviewing folks, and they had the area taped off, but it didn't look very, um, "crime-sceney", I guess. There were no rubberneckers on Mass Ave, for instance. It looked like something bad, but, y'know, NORMAL-bad, like a heart attack, had happened.

Thanks for letting us know what it was.

saxikath just pointed this out to me--well, pointed out where it's showing on the 11:00 news. From the sound of it, it wasn't a random shooting, but someone after a particular victim. Which is still not good, but it's a little reassuring, I suppose. In case you didn't see the news tonight.

Yikes! We were coming down Mass. Ave to turn right on Walden St (the corner where the KFC is), saw the fire trucks and ambulances and took Rindge Ave instead. I thought it was a car fire or something until I saw your post.

That's always scary... there was a shooting under the Huron Ave railroad bridge near our house about a year ago. Like this one, it was a case where the victim and the assailant knew each other. Random stuff is a lot scarier, of course.

(1) that's the bus stop I almost always wait at if I'm taking the bus.
(2) I'd feel slightly better if they'd actually caught the shooter.
(3) I'm not actually feeling at all scared/freaked/whatever by this. I'd probably be more if it had been a random "someone really didn't like their KFC" postal moment.
